Colombia is very proud of having the Palm Tree, the highest tree of the world, It is also The National Tree of Colombia, declared by the Congress of the Republic in September 16 of 1985 La palma de Cera del Quindio “Ceroxylon Quindiuense” identified by the Botany Hermann Karstenen in 1860, and today is the queen of the Palm Tree.
The high of this tree exceeds 60 meters and its trunk takes about 15 years to start to grow, It could last more than 250 years. From its stem we could extract a fine layer of wax that can be used to make candles.
The wax tree helps to provide food and habitat to some animals and also it acts as a controller of the water and wind, It keeps a balance in the environment.
The leaves of this tree are dark green and Its leaves are covered by a layer of wax, its fruit grows under the leaves forming a bunch of little spheres of red color with a thin and smooth skin.
